The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
