The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
