The Gruesome Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Stays With Fans

Out of all the mature animated films I have personally viewed, no other has remained with me quite like the dread-soaked conclusion of the viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director developed a grim, somber , often savage world with some tiny , desolate glimmers of optimism.

Although Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a desire to expand the medium further, the filmmaker clarified that it was rather an attempt to express a widespread, cross-cultural theme concerning “the mutual source of every conflict.”

That idea is communicated via a group of colorful pastel bears , obviously based on a well-known line of lovable figures.

Growing up in a society centered on militarism and the war machine, many of these creatures are consumed by slaughtering unicorns, because of a religious scripture that claims the bears they previously were kings of the woodland, until the horned beings expelled them.

Some have not completely accepted the brainwashing, and would rather sample substances and engage sexually outdoors.

In contrast to their cuddly counterparts, these vivid animals display genitals , obvious libidos.

For one notably brutal, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns transforms into a path to control — and specifically to authority over his softer, nicer brother the bear Tubby.

The character acts as a tormentor and an obvious sociopath , and while horror dominates his squad and kills his fellow soldiers sequentially, he takes progressively power on his own behalf, in increasingly gory, destructive ways.

Meanwhile, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, through a spreading, destructive monster in their forest.

“Initially, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “However it turns into a more intense and sorrowful film. And in the finale, it’s a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars commences resembling one of the most quirky films from a legendary filmmaker, that discover a naughty glee in letting animated figures swear, engage in violence, or sex each other up.

Then it becomes closer to a more grim work by that same director, including ever more graphic violence and a tangible relation to the actual suffering of battle.

In the finale, it is an outright Grand Guignol bloodbath.

The fear which makes this an ideal spooky-season watch starts well before than that description suggests.

Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated gorehounds, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who wish to view a movie they’ve never seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a narrative that offers no restraint.

View it with the lights off without any distractions, and the finale will crawl into your mind and take up residence there.
