The former Liverpool manager states coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is an option. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead another team within the country. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I might decide later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to management, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, though he denied the suggestion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a car crash with his brother recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the squad missing him. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
