Russian President Vladimir Putin Vows Steady Crude Oil Supplies to the Indian Nation in Defiance of Washington Demands
Amid a clear message to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia is prepared to guarantee “uninterrupted” shipments of energy resources to India. The announcement came when Putin and Modi met in the Indian capital and declared their partnership were “resistant to external pressure.”
A Signal Directed at the United States
This affirmation, made on Friday, seemed to be a direct challenge at western countries, which have tried to pressure New Delhi into scaling back its longstanding relations with Moscow. This comes is in response to recent Washington's moves, such as additional import duties against Indian goods over its buying of Moscow's energy exports.
“Russia is a trustworthy source of fuel and all necessary for the growth of India’s economy,” he said. “We are ready to continue ensuring the steady delivery of fuel for the rapidly growing Indian economy.”
Modi, while not mentioning oil specifically, reinforced the focus by stating that “energy security has been a strong and crucial pillar of the India-Russia partnership.”
Challenging Washington's Stance
Before the meeting, via a media interview, Putin had challenged Washington's stance regarding India's dealings with Russia. He argued, “Should America has the right to buy our atomic materials, how can you deny India claim the equivalent access?”
The visit represented his maiden journey to India following the onset of the situation in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi engaged in a deliberate effort to display that the personal rapport between the two leaders remained intact.
A Warm Welcome
Taking an unusual step, the Indian PM welcomed directly Putin upon his arrival. They embraced warmly as close allies before holding a one-on-one meal the night before the summit.
The Indian prime minister referred to India's alliance with Russia as “a lodestar” and said it was “based on mutual respect and strong faith.”
Strengthening Strategic Cooperation
Friday's talks produced a number of key agreements regarding defence and economic cooperation. A major outcome was the signing of an economic cooperation programme aimed at 2030, which aims to boost commerce to one hundred billion dollars each year by the end of the decade.
Furthermore vowed to restructure their defence ties. Even as Russia continues to be India's biggest source of defence equipment, the volume has declined lately as India has sought widen its procurement.
The joint statement highlighted an agreement on the joint production of cutting-edge weapons platforms, even if direct details of purchases such as the Sukhoi Su-57 were left out.
Overall, Moscow and Delhi affirmed that in the “ongoing challenging, strained, and volatile geopolitical situation, Russian-Indian ties stay resilient to foreign influence.”
