Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
