The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has resigned as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This follows a judicial decision that invalidated her legal standing to occupy the role.
Official Departure
The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, confirmed her stepping down on Monday. She commented that the judicial decision made it "untenable" for the official to perform her duties.
"But do not mistake compliance for surrender," she declared. "My fight will now extend throughout America."
Judicial Challenge
Her resignation follows closely on a judicial panel determined that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This judgment is expected to impact scores of prosecutions in New Jersey.
The court ruled that a temporary posting that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate breached the federal law governing appointments.

Bondi said that she will continue working within the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. Habba plans to pursue additional appeals of the disqualification, aiming for a different outcome.
In a statement, Bondi argued that the court "should not be able to second-guess the President's choice of prosecutors entrusted with carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of prosecuting crime."

Habba, was initially recruited to Trump's personal legal team in recent years. Subsequently, she defended her client in his New York criminal case in the previous year, leading to his conviction on 34 counts of document fraud.
