A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
